Connect the network cable (optional)
LaserJet Enterprise 700 Printer M712n If you are connecting to a network, connect the network cable now. If not, skip this step and go to Connect the power cable and turn on the product.
CAUTION: Do not connect a USB cable now. If you plan to use a USB cable to connect the product to the computer, it will be connected during the software installation.

Connect the power cable and turn on the product
Connect the power cable between the product and a grounded AC outlet. To prevent damage to the product, use only the power cable that is provided with the product.

CAUTION: Make sure your power source is adequate for the product voltage rating. The voltage rating is on the product label. The product uses either 100-127 Vac or 220-240 Vac and 50/60 Hz.
Turn the product power on.

Wait for 60 seconds before continuing. During this time, if you connected the product to a network, the network recognizes the product and assigns an IP address or hostname for the product.
After the product initializes, set the language, date/time, paper size, and paper type if prompted.
NOTE: After you install the software, more advanced setup is available by entering the product IP address in the address bar of a Web browser.

To verify that the product prints, do the following:
At the product control panel, press the Home button.
Printer Setup Open the following menus:
Scroll to the Configuration Page item, and then press the OK button.
Touch the Print item and then press the OK button to print the product configuration and Jetdirect pages HP LaserJet Enterprise 700 Printer.
NOTE: If you plan to use the product on a network, save these pages. The Jetdirect page contains the product IP address.
If you connected the product to a network, find the IP address on the Jetdirect page.
IPv4: If the IP address is 0.0.0.0, or 126.96.36.199, or 169.254.x.x, you must manually configure the IP address. Otherwise, the network configuration was successful.
IPv6: If the IP address begins with “fe80:”, the product should be able to print. If not, you must manually configure the IP address.

If the product will be connected with a USB cable, the software installation process requires that the product is turned on and in the Ready state. Configure the following setting so the product wakes from Sleep mode during the software installation process:
- Do not connect a USB cable now.
- On the product control panel, press the Home button.
- Press the down arrow to highlight Administration, and press OK.
- General Settings, and press OK. /
- Energy Settings, and press OK.
- Sleep Timer Settings, and press OK./
- Wake/Auto On Events, and press OK.
- All events, and press OK.
Update the firmware
HP regularly updates features that are available in the product firmware. Update the product firmware to take advantage of the most current features if you need hp printer setup.
